10 Eco-friendly home cleaning products for 2021

Eco-friendly, sustainable, or natural

In 1969, the United States passed the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) This act declares that to pursue sustainability means “to create and maintain the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony to support present future generations”.

Manufacturers have several ways to make products sustainable:

  • Energy choices
  • Manufacturing techniques
  • Ingredients
  • Packaging choices

Eco-friendly simply means “not environmentally harmful”.

Here’s a few of our favorites:

Oxygen

Oxygen plays a huge part in the Eco friendly niche. A fifth of the air we breathe, 20.93%, is oxygen. Understanding the basics of how oxygen interacts in the environment explains a vast number of questions regarding Eco friendly products.

The element oxygen requires two parts to form each oxygen molecule, O2. The electrical charge of oxygen is negative 2 or (-2). That’s important to know because ‘like particles’ attract. When we use cleaners we want the particles to detach. A build up of oxygen leeds to corrosion. Biodegrades need to dissolve. The chemistry is fascinating and we’ll explore that more for future posts.
